The Borealis Renaissance Consort is a group of friends who love to play early music, especially dance music of the Renaissance. They have been playing together since 2008 at local dance events, medieval feasts of the Society of Creative Anachronism, and have performed at the Deep Freeze Festival for several years. They have also played for the Renaissance Dance workshop offered at the Early Music Festival of Early Music Alberta for the past four years. They have also played at Ronald McDonald House and for a Senior’s Residence.
Members of the Renaissance Consort are Glenn Eilers, Leslie Main Johnson, Tracey Nyhus, Janet Couch, Karina Thomas, David Woods, Nigel Jackman, and Tom Mead. They have a range of musical backgrounds and other musical interests. One member, Leslie Johnson, also dances Renaissance dance. Another member, Karina Thomas, has also played for the Regency Balls held at the Hotel McDonald.
The members play recorder and fiddle, complemented by cello and/or guitar, with lap harp for accent.
