Since 1989, Shumka School of Dance (SSD) has trained thousands of dancers & helped them achieve a broad dance-focused skill set, performance excellence, & a strong work ethic. With its family-like atmosphere, the School is a welcoming and safe place for youth to establish and achieve their artistic dreams. It is also a place where they are given the tools & the experience to become future community leaders & builders. They create Ukrainian dance that is traditionally accurate, superbly entertaining, & recognizably Shumka.

Vohon Ukrainian Dance Ensemble

Over the last 30 years, the Vohon Ukrainian Dance Ensemble has excited audiences with both their regional repertoire and their character storylines. The ensemble creates a rich display of Ukrainian dance that lights the stage from the moment the curtain opens to the final Hopak.

The Vohon Ukrainian Dance Ensemble was co-founded in 1988 by Ken Kachmar and Rick Wacko. For almost a decade, Vohon has been under the artistic direction of Trish Kushniruk and Garrett Nestorowich. Together, the artistic pair bring over 70 years of dance experience and work to create challenging and engaging choreography for dancers and audience members alike; the result is a captivating display of Ukrainian dance.

In its time, Vohon has shared its passion for Ukrainian dance on both local and international stages including festivals across Western Canada, the United States, Australia, Germany, Scotland, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Japan, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, England, and Ukraine. Vohon is a strong ambassador for Edmonton, as well as their province and country.

Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company

The Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company is a leader in Ukrainian Dance in Canada. Through discipline, determination, and superb artistic direction, Cheremosh has had phenomenal success as a semi-professional Ukrainian dance company the world over. Rich in intensity, energy, and spirit, Cheremosh has a reputation for bringing amazing choreography to the stage. Cheremosh takes audiences on a colourful and exhilarating journey, thrilling them with intricate choreography, spectacular costumes and dynamic music. Men leap to amazing heights with their breathtaking acrobatics while women spin across the stage with incredible beauty and grace. Cheremosh is without a doubt a sight to behold.

The Volya Ukrainian Dance Ensemble

The Volya Ukrainian Dance Ensemble is a registered not-for-profit organization, established in 1989 by a small group of highly-accomplished dancers, many of whom had studied in Ukraine. Their idea was simple: create a group that would hold itself to the highest standards of technical excellence and professionalism, a group that was small enough to travel on a regular basis, creating new opportunities for dancers to share their love of Ukrainian dance with audiences around the world. Inspired by the concept of freedom, the founders named the fledgling troupe Volya, the Ukrainian word for freedom.

From the beginning, the group has maintained a strong focus on the traditional essence of Ukrainian dance, while contributing to the evolution that has seen the simple beauty of regional Ukrainian folk dances develop into a complex and vibrant performing art.

Métis Child & Family Jiggers

Métis Child & Family Jiggers promote the Métis traditions of music and dance by performing at various functions and events in Alberta. Some of the traditional dances of the Métis include the Duck dance, Reel of 8, Reel of 4, and of course, the “Red River Jig,” which is the most widely known dance.

Rumba Caliente Edmonton Latin Beat

Big Bear Yurt Stage (91 St & 118 Ave, located in Pipon Village) @ 7:15 pm

One of Canada's premier bands, Rumba Caliente, bring to the stage a live mixing show. Playing music from all decades, this purely entertaining group gets people up on their feet to feel the beat and start dancing as they combine hit songs with their Latin style. This year they bring their first album to the festival with new rhythms and fusion.

Erasmo Coco

Erasmo Coco is a local Edmonton musician. Coco plays blues, roots, and traditional music using home made instruments as well as harmonica and guitar.

Jared Sowan

Jared Sowan is an award winning multi-talented instrumentalist who has a powerful voice. It is coupled with a sense of humour that will entertain and delight all audiences. His soulful tone brings to mind the old blues and gospel era of yesteryear while his music has an edgy raw groove that sits in the pocket. You may want to tap your toe and bop your head or just dance the night away. No matter what age you are or what style of music you enjoy, you will find that you will appreciate and enjoy the entertainment he provides. 

Jared is an accomplished pianist, bass player, drummer, and guitar player. He combines his experience and versatility to give you an exceptional evening of entertainment and music, including cover songs and originals. Jared has played with a wide variety of musicians, bands and entertainers over many years and in many different parts of the world. His experience and dedication  brings you the best music and world class entertainment you should expect and will enjoy. From duelling pianos, solo performance or with his entire band, you will feel the groove.
